OCCUPATION OF UNICEF-CHILE ENDS TODAY

OCCUPATION OF UNICEF-CHILE ENDS ... BUT THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES!

After 39 days of occupation and 10 days on hunger strike on the premises of the UNICEF-Chile and after obtaining the commitment of this institutions representative, Tom Olsen, of going to the region of Ercilla and observe in place the complaints that prompted this action of force and pressure, the Mapuche representatives abandoned the UNICEF-Chile Headquarters.

Mewlen Huencho, the Werkén (spokesperson) of this group of women from the Mapuche Territorial Alliance, is now traveling towards Ercilla to await UNICEF so this international organization may take note of the gravity of the situation.

Werkén Mewlen Huencho: "This is not the end, since they have just committed new acts of violence against the Mapuche people and there is also the hunger strike in jail for Mapuche political prisoners. All this makes that we do not do more than take some strength and encouragement to continue the fight, a struggle in which international support is very important."
