Public statement by Mapuche Community Autonomous Temucuicui on the arbitrary transfer of Mapuche Political Prisoners, Chilearbitrary transfer of the Mapuche Political Prisoner

March 11, 2013

Faced with the arbitrary transfer of Mapuche Political Prisoners the Mapuche Community Autonomous Temucuicui hereby makes known to the Local, National and International public opinion the following:

1. - On Thursday 7 and Friday 8 March 2013, in the afternoon and under heavy security, Camilo Toris Quiñinao and Omar Huenchullan Cayul, members of the Community Autonomous Temucuicui, were transferred from the prison of the city of Angol to the prison of El Manzano in the city of Concepción, Biobío region.

2. - According to information provided by the warden of the prison of Angol in a meeting with the traditional authorities of the community, he would have received a resolution from the operational Sub-directorate of the gendarmes of Santiago, who ordered the immediate transfer of the Inmates Camilo Toris Quiñinao, Omar Huenchullan, Daniel Levinao and Hector Llaitul.

3. - For our community this resolution and transfer of Mapuche political prisoners, is another serious blow of the Chilean State to the Mapuche communities, the actions of government authorities do not contribute anything to the good treatment and dialog that they profess on a daily basis and say to maintain with the Mapuche People.

4. - We strongly reject this new aggression, the only purpose of this is to silence the Mapuche political prisoners, keep them away from their families and community, separating them from their territorybecause of which our community will continue to pursue all legal activities to reverse this serious outrage.

We make a broad appeal to all organizations and Mapuche and non-Mapuche communities to reject this government action and show solidarity with our imprisoned brothers, because they are separated from their families and communities.
